Art Bit by Bit/ Mosaics

Artist Annie Thomas-Burke

Annie writes on her website;

Please enjoy this portfolio of my recent work. Contact me for any needs you may have. My profession: Artist, Writer and Designer. Professional Organizer, Redesign Specialist, Home Staging Artisan, Web Designer. First and foremost I am an Artist and Writer. They are my life's passion.

I am drawn to artists and art forms that allow freedom to
explore those inner areas we all hide normally.

My life long admiration of the arts has only recently been
expressed through me. I have been a avid museum and
gallery visitor for most of my adult life.
I admired it from afar as a single mother.
I wished for the time necessary to create art of my own.
It wasn't until the children grew up that I was able to finally
say it is time for me now. I searched out information on the
mosaic process and became immediately enthralled with all
that I could make glass do.

General bio, small business owner and freelance writer.
I have a small home staging and organizing business, but primarily I
am now a working artist and writer. Three kids, one spouse and too
many pets in a quiet mountainous suburb of Chattanooga TN.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Gay, transgender, erotic art attacked in SeattleThursday, March 2008

A blog reader wrote this story to us of an attack on art;
I thought that you might be interested in this story for your blog.

I am a Seattle photographer with an exhibition currently showing at
the Benham Gallery, 1612 First Avenue (@University), in downtown
Seattle.

Over the Easter weekend the gallery suffered two acts of vandalism in
an apparent attack against the art work on display. The artwork
includes photographs of transgender woman and gay men, among others,
in a show entitled "Erotic Beauty." Three photographs appeared in the
gallery's front display window. On Saturday the display window was
smeared with feces. On Sunday a metal utility cover was hurled through
the display window, shattering the glass and damaging the wall and
floor of the gallery.

Marita Holdaway, curator of Benham Gallery, said in a press release,
"We believe our window was smashed by a person who was challenged by
the content of this exhibition. The subjects of these artworks have
experienced enough of this kind of cowardliness and violence. We are
happy to discuss our curatorial decisions with anyone who wishes to
talk with us instead of experiencing this kind of behavior."

The "Erotic Beauty" exhibition is on display at the Benham Gallery
thru April 12. The gallery is open Wed - Sat from 11 AM - 6 PM. On
"First Thursdays Art Walk" the gallery remains open until 8 PM.

No photographs were damaged in the attack.

The show includes photographs by Fiona Aboud (NYC), Paul Dalquist
(Portland), Sean Newman (Seattle), and David Steinberg (San Francisco).

The Seattle Times: Photo gallery's window smashed.

Below is the press release issued by Benham Gallery curator Marita
Holdaway:

FROM BENHAM GALLERY:
Contact: Marita Holdaway
Phone: 206-622-2480

On Easter Eve a large pane glass window was smashed with a metal Seattle
Utility cover at 1216 1st ave, Benham Gallery.

Saturday afternoon someone spread feces across our windows.

Marita Holdaway, gallery owner, placed this note on the plastic
that covers the broken glass until it is repaired Monday

•We believe our window was smashed by a person who was challenged by the
content of this exhibition.

The subjects of these artworks have experienced enough of this kind of
cowardliness and violence.

We are happy to discuss our curatorial decisions with anyone who
wishes to
talk with us instead of experiencing this kind of behavior.

Happy Easter!•

Censorship is alive, violent and expensive in Seattle.

We would like to thank the Seattle police department for covering the
window
and securing the premise!

If you have any questions please call 206-622-2480 and ask for Marita.

New ARTIST SHOWCASE! - Mischa Epstein Alvarado

MischaCollages.com
This is a wonderful find in this artist showcase.  Making complex collages out of anything she can get her hands on, Mischa Epstein Alvarado truly has a unique style in her art.  We were amazed on the intricacy of her collages, and the amount of time it would have taken to complete each project.

Based out of Springfield, MA, Mischa and her wife work a lot of shows during the weekends. In September of last year she was in 6 exhibits. Now that's what we call busy, busy, busy. Her work is truly amazing, it's refreshing and unlike anything else we usually see. Take a look at her website: www.mischacollages.com

We really enjoy her work and how unique each piece is. We also like the fact that her work is different, very whimsical and friendly. As you can see on her website, some of her work could also be suitable for children. It is very hard to collage by hand, and also rare to see such talented collage artists. Anyhow we consider Mischa very talented in her work, and we really enjoyed reviewing and showcasing her work to the LGBT community.

Artists Statement

Mischa Epstein Alvarado has been a visual and performance artist most of her life. Over time she has developed a distinctive personal style that she is now sharing with the world.

Mischa's images combine child-like imagination and complex composition into a beautiful visual style for people of all ages. She creates her collages by hand, using paper, beads, buttons, snaps, wood, and whatever else comes to her. Every piece of art features attention to detail, inspiration and techniques that reveal a compelling story to tell. Each piece is meant to soar with your imagination and give you the same feeling of joy she recieves from creating them.

To the left, the piece is entitled "My Only Sunshine".  I would defiantly stop in and take a look at Mischa work. Her website is www.mischacollages.com ..... you can also contact Mischa directly by emailing her at  mealvarado.collages@yahoo.com

Please stop by and look at her work, or even feel free to leave her a comment here on this post, we would love to hear your feedback.

We are still calling for more artists to contact us for Artist Showcases. If you are an artist of any kind, music, film, photography, pottery, painting, drawing, collage, graphic design, web design, ANYTHING!!! PLEASE LET US KNOW!! Don't be afraid to contact us.

Until next time, stay safe and keep those creative minds flowing. This world will always need your art.

ARTIST SHOWCASE - "Jack Collins""

"I want to explore the human need that requires each of us to balance the two extremes, using the sensibilities of black and white photography as my medium. "

We are looking at Jack Collins and his digital photography in today's showcase. Based out of Denver, Colorado - Jack explores with infrared and alternative digital photography. We took a look at his website and found very intriguing photography. He keeps it simple with Black and White photography, ranging from headshots to cityscapes to landscapes and body shots.

Jack is interested in the Fine Arts, Nude Figure Studies, Photojournalism, Conceptualism, and the Alternative Print Processes used in photography.

Artist Statement
Love and Forgiveness
My work is about acceptance
Acceptance of things we cannot change
To learn WHY they should NOT change
Using opposites
Black and white
Male and female
Life and death
Opposites that ultimately attract
Halves of the same whole
We are all dots moving along a linear course
Waiting to be pushed and pulled
Learning to exert the energy, to control the forces,
Ultimately, required to change in order to resume the linear path
My work is about education and the need to evolve
When balancing, one must go towards the center, the middle gray, and move outward in all directions, such as the spokes of a wheel, that all lead to the same place from a different point, and ultimately with the same purpose.

We are all seeking to balance and achieve a rich tapestry of detail,
purpose, and interest to our individual pictures, while creating a mosaic of ONE.

I want to explore the human need that requires each of us to balance the two extremes, using the sensibilities of black and white photography as my medium.

Black and white photography mixes light and dark beautifully, with a
balanced and acceptable tonal range.

My two personal extremes are religion and sexuality, and my work is about breaking down the false ideas that bind me, whether in the dark or the light.  Visit My Site -- Click Here

Jack has also been in multiple art shows ranging from 2002-06, along with being featured on many websites. He also has published works, and was given an award for Best of Show in 03'.

We hope you keep it up Jack and continue with your photography, and winning awards. We also want to congratulate you for your achievements and wish you all the luck in your career. ARTIST SHOWCASE - "Cathy Stacy"

Coming from Winthrop, Massachusetts, native Boston Cathy Stacy is a Digital Photographer specializing in landscapes, portraits, and everyday candid shots. Having loved photography all her life, she recently went professional just last year. We took the pleasure of looking at her website and found eye catching photography and we love her energetic style. Cathy has a very distinguished perspective and she can capture the mood of her subjects through composition, and balance.

The picture to the right is entitled "Erotica" and displays great balance and composition, along with contrasting colors and a great focal point with awesome detail.

We also checked out her Tabblo, which is an online album for people to view and share their works, and found more wonderful pieces of her work. From abstract to black and white, Cathy captures it all in her photgraphy. Check out her Tabblo!  www.tabblo.com/studio/person/cathystacy

The picture to the left is entitled "White Boat", which is one of our favorites. Great contrast and composition, and overall captivating.

As you will read in her bio, many of her photographs have been noticed by local Boston papers and tv programs. I think we can say that Cathy will have a very successful road in photography, and we were delighted to see her work.  Here are a few more of our favorites! Make sure to check out her website and tabblo!

Biography of Cathy Stacy
I grew up and have lived in the Boston area all my life. I have been taking pictures since I was a child, but didn’t go professional until early 2007. My pictures have appeared in The BostonNow newspaper, New England Sports Magazine, WCAT TV (local television program) and even on a CD cover and publicity photos (for Kyle Davis). For my own personal pictures I love to take pictures of ironic street scenes, interesting people and local events.

I have the ability to see the unusual and humorous in everyday life. I love taking pictures of doorways, flowers, piers and boats. I also love doing photo stories, such as one I did when I followed a triathlete from the moment she got up in the morning, through preparation for her events, and finally to the celebration of the completion of the triathlon. To get a better idea of what I do, please go to my website at www.cathystacyphotography.com and www.tabblo.com/studio/person/cathystacy
I can be reached at info@cathystacyphotography.com.
Thank you for your consideration. Keep up the good work.
Cathy

Leave some comments on her work and feel free to contact her directly. She is selling works on her website, go check it!

Cathy it was a pleasure to view your work. We wish you all the best with your career!

Sytiva Sheehan is a very talented artist and it has been my pleasure to look over her works and read about all of her accomplishments thus far. OK so this quick post is about a few cool things I have found for ARTISTS to promote their works.  One is VIRB.com

A and H, the LiveLifeLoud  chicks, both have a VIRB  check them out on the right side.  But seriously VIRB is a sweet place to post your works.  ITS a FREE site and a truly great forum to meet other creative people.  Get inspired by NEW works, meet new people, and get good exposure for your creativity.  Virb is a place that lets you put all of the things that make you you-photo's, videos,  more blogs-in one place.

And the other is ZAZZLE.com.  We are still working on our LiveLifeLoud Zazzle page but basically to explain in a quick overview,  it is a place where you or other people can buy things with your artworks printed on it and you receive a %.  The cool thing is you choose that %.  If you have not seen it yet you should at least check it out.  We will  put up our store as a link when its done to show you more.

If you have other sites, other ways for the community to share our creative works please comment here to us or email us.  We are looking for Lots of people and Lots of information to share, and remember we can't do this without you.  So write us!!

LESBIANS who LOVE the L Word we need your Help!

Hey Gals (and guys)

We need your help.  As most of the Lesbians all over the globe we are in LOVE with the HOT Showtime TV show the L Word.  We are working on a major design project involving huge canvas paintings incorporating images of our favorite cast members........ of the ahhhh so yummy L Word series.  Of course we are starting with Shane (one of our favorites) and we need your help with picture choices
of Shane, Alice, Dana, Bette, Tina, Kit, Max, Helena and possibily more Although I am not too excited about painting Jenny, she is my least favorite character and honestly she is ON MY NERVES this season, but whatever we will see.

It's all about what kind of feedback we get from you.  So please tell us WHO is your favorite character on the L Word?
And which picture of your favorite character would you like for us to re-create using our special combined style.

We will be combining our styles of graphics, and portrait painting.  If all works well maybe make a calendar of sorts for fundraising in our community.  So tell us Who is your favorite Don't be shy.  "A" started on the first painting of Shane tonight and we will share the process all this week.    Remember pass the word and email us with your stories and creativity to share. Give us a link to your site and we will post it here.

We have also thought about working on images from the show that started it all on Showtime for the LGBT commuity....Queer as Folk,  If people are interested in those characters let us know.  Any queer ICONs are what we want to paint.  Your suggestions are what we will work with in our future projects.

Best of Luck to you and Yours............and Remember LiveLifeLoud
